Park Hill Junior School

Religious Education (RE)

Vision

The aim of our Religious Education lessons is to

  • Enable pupils to understand that people hold different beliefs, practices, insights and experiences and that respecting differences is paramount.

  • Build on the knowledge and skills learned in previous years regarding religious and non-religious viewpoints and practices.

  • Provide opportunities for pupils to explore and express their own responses and personal beliefs.

Intent

At Park Hill Junior School we believe that Religious Education is an essential part of our curriculum. We want to promote pupils’ understanding of the multicultural and multi-faith society that we live in today. Pupils are provided with opportunities to develop their spiritual, moral, cultural and social learning. Having learnt about different faiths as well as beliefs from a non-religious standpoint, they will explore and express their own responses and personal beliefs. Each year group will focus on religions agreed through the Croydon Sacre Syllabus. All year groups will focus on one particular religion at the same time, enabling opportunities for cross-curricular learning to take place.

PHJS Religious Education Whole School Overview

Our Religious Education curriculum centres upon the teachings of Christianity, Islam and Hinduism as independent units, with two units per year dedicated to Worldviews. These lessons focus on particular themes, such as love, and how these themes feature in the mentioned religions as well as Humanism (non-religious viewpoint) Sikhism, Buddhism and Judaism.
